Accelerating our purpose Accelerating our purpose

As part of last week's Board of Trustees meeting, we provided an update regarding our work to accelerate UK's purpose. Our five workgroups — comprised of dedicated faculty, staff and students — have worked diligently to kickstart this effort with vigor and intentionality. We plan to provide a second progress update to the board during the February meeting.

As many of you know, in March representatives of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges visited our campus for the process known as reaffirmation. Every 10 years, universities like ours undergo an extensive review – one that takes months of time and hundreds of people across our campus to prepare for – as part of being an accredited institution. As a practical matter, the process of accreditation – and reaffirmation – is important because it, among other things, ensures our eligibility for federal student financial aid.

Supporting Our Students Supporting Our Students

This time of year is exciting for many reasons: the satisfaction of closing chapters and the anticipation of beginning new ones, the eagerness of spending time with those you cherish or getting an opportunity to rest and recharge. It's also a time of year when some of our students need us most.

Thank you for upholding our promise to advance Kentucky Thank you for upholding our promise to advance Kentucky

To be sure, this season of thanks and reflection can all too easily yield to a winter of discontent and discord. So much of our politics and our world seem irrevocably fractured and fractious, making our mission to educate and discover both more challenging and more important than ever. The power of what we do, throughout our Commonwealth and world, is based on the belief that even in the depths of debate, so fundamental to education and discovery, we share a humanity. And that shared humanity tells us that everyone is worthy. Everyone belongs. Everyone is someone of infinite worth. Everyone can contribute because we are and can be so much more together.

Efforts to Accelerate the University of Kentucky's Progress Efforts to Accelerate the University of Kentucky's Progress

As we near the halfway mark in the academic year, I wanted to provide an update on an important initiative that will guide much of our future work together as we seek to advance Kentucky in everything that we do.

Our momentum

Campus Community,   Momentum. That is what the Kentucky Can campaign ensures.   And research at UK continues to push the boundaries of knowledge –– the boundaries of what is possible.
