Changes to Mask Policy

Beginning on March 9 we will adopt an optional mask-wearing policy in common areas across campus, such as the Gatton Student Center; common areas or hallways of classroom buildings; dining halls; libraries; workout facilities; and residence halls. Masks will remain mandatory in classrooms during classes and in private offices/suites and conference/meeting rooms where more than one person is gathered.

Supporting Each Other, Keeping Our Community Safe

Even as the trendlines are all positive, we know COVID-19 remains a tremendous challenge in our state, country and world. Get vaccinated. Get your booster shot. Continue to follow the healthy behaviors that have protected and safeguarded our community so well so far.

Demonstrating Our Commitment to Student Learning

Every 10 years, we seek reaffirmation from the body that accredits UK – the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). We are announcing our Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) – an important part of reaccreditation process. Our QEP focuses on what we are calling Transdisciplinary Educational approaches to advance Kentucky (TEK).

A Reminder of Who We Are, Update on COVID-19

We are on a positive trajectory with the virus, but we must remain vigilant in keeping our community safe. Against that backdrop, we are continually evaluating our policies and procedures with respect to COVID. We will continue that process and communicate any time we are ready to make changes, in consultation with campus leaders among our faculty, staff and students.

International Travel Changes

Dear Campus Community, As we move into 2022, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge us. However, we have the tools to support the health and safety of our community and the communities with whom we interact, while at the same time engaging in our critical work. This includes our commitment to being a globally engaged university. Along with testing and masking, we know that fully vaccinated and boosted individuals can resume many of their pre-pandemic activities with a low risk of becoming seriously ill.

Weekly Update: Weather, The UK Story, Continued Progress with Vaccination

Campus Community, I hope you are staying safe and healthy this afternoon and weekend. I would like to provide you with several updates. Weather We have learned, several times already this winter, that weather can rapidly change our plans. I am so appreciative of the efforts of thousands of unsung heroes across UK who have worked to keep our campus safe during multiple bouts of inclement weather this winter season. 

Weekly Update

Late this week, I traveled to Western Kentucky and visited with members of our community impacted by the horrific storms that cut a path of devastation through so much of our state in December. The encounters reminded me of the importance of community and the hope that, even in the darkest of moments, there is the promise of something brighter ahead.

Legislative Progress; Our Commitment to Health and Well-being

The state House yesterday adopted a proposed two-year budget and spending plan for the Commonwealth. The spending plan, which now goes to the Senate, underscores the importance of higher education and this institution — in creating a Kentucky that is healthier, wealthier and wiser.
