Our Mission, 160 Years Strong

The University of Kentucky is a public, land grant university dedicated to improving people's lives through excellence in education, research and creative work, service and health care.

The University of Kentucky:

  • Facilitates learning, informed by scholarship and research;
  • Expands knowledge through research, scholarship and creative activity; and
  • Serves a global community by disseminating, sharing and applying knowledge.

From Paducah to Pikeville, Covington to Cumberland, the University of Kentucky touches lives across the Bluegrass State, providing education, cultural stimulation and economic development in all 120 counties. As Kentucky's flagship institution, UK plays a critical leadership role in the Commonwealth by contributing to the economic development and quality of life within Kentucky's borders and beyond.

We were created — and we exist — to advance Kentucky in everything that we do, as we work with partners across this state for a stronger, healthier and more secure Commonwealth.

Campus Messages

Support for what we do to advance Kentucky Campus Message

Campus Community, As president of the University of Kentucky, I often get the opportunity to close on asks and gifts that have been more than 160 years in the making. Over the last few months alone, UK has received a $50 million gift for pediatric care from the B. Thomas Golisano Foundation and $150 million to construct a fine arts district from the Bill Gatton Foundation. Those gifts are a testament to the work you do — and that so many before us have done — to help ensure a Kentucky that tomorrow is healthier, wealthier and wiser than it is today.

A thank you to those who keep us safe Campus Message

Campus Community,Thirty-six hours in shifts dedicated to our campus community’s safety.Nearly 800 rides provided to care givers and other essential personnel.Hundreds of acres and thousands of feet of parking lots plowed and sidewalks treated with nearly 400 tons of salt, again and again.Thousands of meals served to students and workers, tired from the cold and exhausted from their efforts to keep us safe.Dozens of employees working at all hours to keep open essential facilities that support our students and extend care to those who need it most.

Our commitment to transparency and accountability Campus Message
