Project 6: Redesign UK101 Module

Project Leads: Rachael Deel (Director, Academic Preparation and Placement; Transformative Learning) and Nicole Martin (Director, Inclusive Excellence and Diversity Education)

Charge: The team will look to their Executive Sponsors and the DEI Workgroup for support with respect to their ongoing work in reimagining UK 101 diversity and inclusivity modules and required training for instructors and peer instructors. Further, the team will convene as necessary to update and prepare UK 101 modules for the upcoming academic term.

Project 7: Implement Student Training Module

Project Leads: Sarah Ballard (Director, Student Services) and Michia Brangers (Online Admissions Counselor, UK Online)

Charge: This project will help determine the type, mode, and frequency of training related to DEI that will be the most effective and impactful module for all students. The team should discuss questions such as: When should students complete this mandatory training? How often should they engage in the training(s)? What does this training look like? The team should take accessibility challenges into consideration as well.

Project 8: Develop Mini-Internship Program

Project Leads: Grace Hahn (Director, Office of Student Organizations and Activities) and Brandon Colbert (Coordinator, Social Justice Education and Engagement, Bias Incident Support Services)

Charge: Our goal at UK is to position our students to succeed at every level and lead lives of meaning and purpose upon graduation. Internship programs are critical to student persistence and success – especially for BIPOC and other historically marginalized students who are forced to navigate additional pressures. This team will develop a mini-internship program specifically for UK students from underrepresented populations so they can gain valuable experience in various disciplines around the institution. This project is an opportunity to ensure our students who need us the most have the support they deserve and require. Leaders throughout many institutions started as interns; and these mini-internships should be designed to offer experiences to students while simultaneously creating a diverse pool of candidates for entry-level positions.

Project 10: Create a Student Gathering Space

Project Lead: Ja'Mahl McDaniel (Director, Martin Luther King Center)

Charge: Project Team #10 will identify what kind of gathering space our students need and what purposes the space will serve. The team will drive the concept of a student gathering spot in addition to the MLK Center.
