Campus Community,

Be bold. Be informed. Be healthy. Be mindful.

This week, as my last piece of advice, I reinforce what I hope we all already do.

Be kind.

Never walk alone. You are going to be challenged by failures, hurts and disappointments. Give yourself permission to be vulnerable and take risks, to struggle and fail. And lean into your community. We are here for you.

Never let anyone in your UK family walk alone. Pay attention when a friend doesn’t seem okay. If the pain gets too great for you or someone else, get help. UK employees have access to in-person and telehealth counseling sessions. UK students also have access to a wide variety of mental health services. All UK employees and students can participate in free suicide prevention trainings.

You are important. You are valued.

As we recognize World Mental Health Day on Oct. 10, let’s take care of ourselves and each other.

Help a friend.

Engage with community.

Support each other.

Let’s be kind.
